Stasis Legendaries Need to Mix Things Up in Destiny 2 Season 15
We need a meaningful change with Stasis Legendaries.
In Season 15, Bungie is bringing Stasis Legendary weapons to Destiny 2. This is going to be a huge change from the norm, mainly because right now we just have Exotics that use this element. It’s something that’s always felt inevitable, but Bungie has been very patiently working away in the background to figure out how to make the element work within weapons without breaking the game. I hope. Making Stasis a full element in Destiny 2, as Solar, Arc, and Void are, is a big step forward, but one that we need if Destiny 2 is going to feel fuller. It just needs to be done right.
Bungie has said in the past that it knew that Stasis would need to be fixed multiple times over the year following Beyond Light. That’s because it’s such a big new addition to the game. It takes everything we know and turns it on its head. It’s not the antithesis of any other element, it’s a brand new way to strategize your play style, and for many Guardians, it’s been a blessing. Others though, they’ve found it to be a curse.
I can’t deny that the Crucible was a horrible place to play in for a good long time. Thankfully, Bungie has mostly fixed that issue that Stasis caused now. The potential issue that’s on the horizon now though is these Stasis Legendaries. They’re the weapons that Guardians will begin chasing as soon as they’re available. They won’t be something that slowly sifts into the loot pool, they’re going to be the weapons that every Guardian chases.
This is why Bungie needs to know what it’s doing when adding these weapons. If it gets this wrong, we might be looking at another few months of Bungie fixing Destiny 2 while these incredibly broken new weapons destroy every activity. I think PvP is every Guardian’s major concern. Stasis can slow you, even freeze you in place. If there’s a trait or perk that does this, then it could be devastating to so many builds.
With that said. Games like Destiny 2 are made to be broken in these ways over time. The status quo should always be questioned and pushed against. A game becomes boring if it isn’t. Bungie is good enough now that it should understand how to do this without killing its game. My hope is that Stasis Legendaries will be all anyone can talk about, but they won’t necessarily all be the most powerful new weapon to chase. Maybe one or two will be worth it, but the rest will likely be set dressing.
