How Should Bungie Nerf Vex Mythoclast in Destiny 2 This December?

Where does it end?

Bungie has made it pretty clear that it’s working on some sort of nerf for Vex Mythoclast. The nerf is due to come into play around December time, when we’ll be getting the Bungie 30th Anniversary Bundle too. This is going to be a big time of change for the game, with loads of new weapons coming into play, and potentially some more mods that Guardians have never seen as well. I’m curious to see exactly what shape this nerf for such an iconic weapon is going to take, but there are so many different directions it could head in.

I think the biggest bug bear that Guardians who don’t have Vex Mythiclast have with it is in PvP. The weapon is honestly a monster, ripping apart Guardians with wild abandon, and it’s not even broken. This weapon was designed to be this good, and Bungie tested it that way. It’s solely down to the Guardians who don’t own it that Bungie is nerfing it, making PvP feel it bit fairer, but I don’t think that’s the way to go.

Instead, I reckon Bungie should focus on improving the drop rates for Vex Mythoclast. If you’ve been playing Destiny 2 for any amount of time, you’ll know that this weapon is basically impossible to get. It’s nothing to do with how good or bad you are as a Guardian, it’s that the luck is never in our favor. The weapon is so elusive that I’m sure there must be Bungie employees who still haven’t got it, and they can make the Vault of Glass do whatever they want.

There’s no point in nerfing the weapon in PvE because it’s meant to be a powerhouse there. I don’t know how you could alter it enough that it’s fine in PvP but still just as good in PvE, but that’s the challenge that Bungie has. Honestly though, we need a Vex Mythoclast day. Just like we had a Gjallarhorn day, let’s have a day when the drop ate for Vex Mythoclast is 100% guaranteed as long as you finish the raid. This would make it so much easier to pick up, and then every Guardian that’s been complaining about it could get their hands on it and shut up.

I know this might sound a bit counterproductive, but I think nerfing a weapon that isn’t broken is exactly that. Let us know what you think about this idea in the comments. I know most of you would like a Vex Mythoclast in your arsenal, so why not?

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
