How To Unlock Artifact Mods In Destiny 2

A simple guide for how Artifact Mods work.

How To Unlock Artifact Mods In Destiny 2

At the time of writing this guide, it’s currently Season of the Chosen. However, this information is going to be relevant to Guardians throughout every season in Destiny 2. That is until Bungie changes how you unlock Seasonal Artifacts. If they do, we’ll update this guide. The following is a simple walkthrough for how you can pick up new Artifact Mods in each and every season in Destiny 2.

The way that seasons work now, you’ll get the Seasonal Artifact as part of the opening quests. You really can’t miss it, unless you actively ignore all of the new content in a season. Once you’ve got it, you’ll have Artifact Mods to unlock. With Season of the Chosen, Bungie has added Seasonal Challenges. One of them for the third week is to pick up all an Artifact Mod for every slot in the Artifact this season.

That’s why we’re putting this guide together. It’s not clear for some Guardians, particularly those new to the game, how you unlock these Artifact Mods. They pop at random times, and sometimes you don’t even know you’ve unlocked one until you check your inventory.

How To Unlock Artifact Mods

You unlock Artifact Mods though any activity in Destiny 2. When you gain XP towards your character and Season Pass, you gain it towards your Seasonal Artifact as well. All you need to do is play the game and you’ll unlock all the mods you need.

The more XP you gain, the more Artifact Mods you’ll unlock. As you unlock and equip them, more slots will open up. Eventually, you’ll have filled out the Artifact with mods. You don’t have to stick to these though. If you reset the Artifact, then you can choose new mods and fill it up all over again.

We hope that this clears up any confusion you might have for this season. It’s also worth noting that you’ll get additional XP gains from completing quests and bounties. I always stock up on as many bounties as I can carry before jumping into a playlist. It’s the best way to add progress to your character, Season Pass, and Artifact. Don’t miss out, and get all of those mods.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
