What are These Destiny 2 The Witch Queen Music Boxes?

Streamers are getting music boxes but no one knows why.

Who is Savathûn? What We Know About The Witch Queen

You may have noticed that a number of streamers were sent a package by Bungie over the weekend. The thing they were sent was a Destiny 2 The Witch Queen music box. Each one is the same playing a short tune as you turn the crank at the side. The actual device isn’t anything special. Music boxes have existed for years, but it’s the other details around these devices that Bungie has specifically sent that bear taking notice.

Okay, so there’s a little bit to take in here. First, we’ve got the date. Bungie has asked that the streamers use the music box on the day Destiny 2 season 15, and The Witch Queen reveal, is set to go live. We even have an exact time. The timing has both the local time in Seattle and Amsterdam. Some believe that the content we’ll be seeing around this time will relate to what each studio has put out. Bungie recently opened a new studio in Amsterdam, so maybe we’re going to be meeting the new staff and getting an idea for which teams are working on each part of the game.

As for the song itself, it doesn’t exist in Destiny 2 right now. Some speculate that it sounds like the theme from Destiny 1’s The Reef. There’s a lot of lore associated with this song, including the return of Mara Sov, but this is a pretty long reach. Others have tried rearranging the notes to make some other tunes, but that’s sort of the point of music, so I don’t see there being much point to that.

I think that we’re ignoring the text too much. “Survive the truth” indicates that the truth is going to hurt. Guardians are already speculating that Osiris is being controlled by Savathun, and Mara Sov was the image Savathun used to control Uldren, so why couldn’t this all be linked?

I think what we’ll see could be something different from the Hive. Maybe we’ll be assaulted by Awoken, all of whom are enslaved to Savathun through Mara Sov’s vision. I think we’re going to get a lot more Awoken lore with season 15, the best lore in the game, and I’m really excited for it. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Let us know what you think all this means in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
