Bungie Should Make All Season Challenges Retroactive in Destiny 2

Why do we have to have even more grind in this game?

Bungie Should Make All Season Challenges Retroactive in Destiny 2

Seasonal Challenges were introduced to Destiny 2 with Season of the Chosen. They’re absolutely brilliant and have completely changed the way I play this game. I’m sure the same is true for almost every Guardian out there. The new feature does have one glaringly obvious issue though. Not all of these challenges count progress from past weeks in the season. Given that some do, I, and many other Guardians, think that this needs to change.

Some Seasonal Challenges revolve around Guardians getting kills in the Crucible, Gambit, Strikes, or earning certain rewards. Whatever it is, if it can be earned or racked up in numbers, there’s probably a Seasonal Challenge for it. Some of these challenges, such as the ones that task you with earning Cabal Gold, count progress from previous weeks. This means that you could earn enough Cabal Gold in week one to complete a challenge in week 10.

However, not all Seasonal Challenges work this way. For example, one that was added just last week requires Guardians to kill 40 enemy Guardians in Gambit. Not only is it just very hard to kill Guardians in Gambit in general, 40 is a huge number for a game mode in which most Guardians don’t pay attention to the PvP element.

For those who ignore it, Gambit is a PvEvP mode in which Guardians need to kill enemies to earn Motes. These Motes are banked to summon a boss. The first team to kill their boss wins. At certain points in a match, Guardians can invade the other team’s world to kill them and slow their progress. They can also heal their boss in that phase of the match.

If you’ve been playing since the start of Season of the Chosen, particularly if you have the Toxicology Ornament for Salvager’s Salvo, then you probably have enough Guardian kills in this game mode to complete this challenge. It doesn’t matter if you do though, because progress is counted from last week’s reset.

Bungie needs to change all Seasonal Challenges like this to mark progress from previous weeks. There are enough new things to chase each week that it’s just too much to force Guardians to perform feats like this as well. You could spend a week trying to get all these kills and still never get them all.

Let us know what you think about this in the comments.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
