Salvager’s Salvo is the pinnacle weapon for Destiny 2 Season of the Chosen. It’s a brand new Legendary grenade launcher, and many are calling it The Mountaintop 2.0. I’m not calling it that in any way, because I’m not so sure it’s true just yet. What I do know is that getting this weapon is one of the biggest grinds I’ve ever experienced in Destiny 2. I’m mentally exhausted just thinking about it, but I want to assure you all that it is possible.
Picking up Salvager’s Salvo requires you to complete Strikes, Crucible matches, or Gambit matches. You get bonus points for Nightfall Strikes and grenade or grenade launcher kills within those activities. In itself, that doesn’t sound too bad right? Well, you’re wrong.
You need to rack up 7,500 points in terms of enemies killed, and that includes Guardians. I checked in a Crucible match and realised that killing an enemy barely counts in points. I got more points from Gambit and Strikes every single time. The only reason to take on Crucible for this quest is to rack up match completions.
The thing is, you’ll be playing enough Strikes that you don’t need to worry about match completions.
The real issue here is getting the bonus points with grenade launcher kills. In Gambit, this is pretty tough with just a heavy grenade launcher. Heavy ammo barely ever drops, and it makes getting those kills that are worth more points almost impossible.
Strikes is where it’s at. You get heavy ammo everywhere, and you can use a grenade launcher for most of the activity. I eventually had one in two slots, and that saw me get about 500 points per Strike.
All this took me three weeks to figure out though. Season of the Chosen is a massive slog already, but this pinnacle weapon quest feels like it takes the piss. I managed to get 5 levels of the season pass unlocked in the first day. Chasing this quest, I’ve unlocked 25 more.
If you’re going after Salvager’s Salvo, be prepared for the longest grind you’ve ever taken part in in 2021. It’s almost so long that it isn’t fun. The reward really is fantastic though, and just about worth that effort.
Let us know if you got this weapon in the comments.
