Is Wardcliff Coil The Best Exotic Rocket Launcher?
Wardcliff Coil is one of those weapons that’s forever cemented in Destiny 2 history for the epic glitch it allowed guardians to perform early after the game’s release. Thankfully that glitch is patched and now Raiders can get that Prestige first without fear of being beaten by cheaters. But that’s not the point of this article, we’re here to discuss whether or not Wardcliff Coil is the best Exotic Rocket Launcher in Destiny 2 or not. Let’s take a look at the stats.
The weapon fires 60 Rounds Per Minute, has a Blast Radius of 55, Velocity of 100, Stability of 55, Magazine Size of 1, Reload Speed of 55, and Handling of 82. The hidden stats are a Zoom of 15, Aim Assistance of 80, and Recoil Direction of 60.
These are pretty great stats to have on your Rocket Launcher. It’s easy to handle and run around with, making it great for quick kills after jumping to a decent vantage point. However, there is definitely room for improvement as right now if you miss the exact shot you’ll probably just injury the enemy in your sights. Thankfully the following perks fix this.
The Exotic perk, Mad Scientist, makes this weapon fire a volley of rockets instead of just one. Volatile Launch greatly increases Blast Radius, but slightly decreases Handling Speed and Projectile Speed. Extended Mag greatly increases Magazine Size but greatly decreases Reload Speed. Mechanized Autoloader reloads the weapon on ammo pickup. Finally Composite Stock slightly increases Stability and Handling Speed.
What you’re seeing here is a massive increase to the ability to blow enemies up by throwing damage at them. The tradeoff is that the speed at which you handle the weapon is cut right back. Unfortunately it just switches the problem the weapon had in the first place on it’s head, making for what is effectively a nuke launcher, but those nukes are much slower than normal rockets.
While this Rocket Launcher is ranked #44 in PVP it’s still fantastic. I don’t think you’d stand much chance killing as many Guardians as you would killing enemies in PVE though. Ideally you’d use this for bullet sponge bosses that just don’t go down, getting in all the damage you need to in a brief time window.
This is the best Exotic Rocket Launcher in Destiny 2. That’s because it’s the only one though. It has been revealed that something called Twin Rabbit is coming with Destiny 2 Forsaken, and that’s an Exotic Rocket Launcher that might well rival Wardcliff Coil. So to summarise, at the time of writing this weapon cannot be beaten in its class, but check back after the launch of Destiny 2 Forsaken later this year and you might see a different point of view when we analyse Twin Rabbit.
