Destiny 2 Tips For Control In The Crucible

destiny-2-control

The recent Iron Banner event that showed us just how much Bungie is changing things in Destiny 2 didn’t manage to change everything, Control is still here! I player a whole lot of the classic Crucible mode and I know that with a slew of new players just in from the PC launch there will be Guardians out there looking for tips on basically anything they can get. Here are my tips for playing Control and how to help your team win.

Objective

The biggest mistake most players make in Control is trying to kill as many of the enemy as physically possible, completely ignoring the capture points. This game mode is all about gaining control of as many points as you can as a team and holding onto that control for as long as possible. With that said, all a team really needs to do is capture two points out of the possible three, and hold onto them for the rest of the match. I’ve seen so many teams lose, including my own, because they’re too focused on getting the next point that they don’t control. I cannot stress enough that if you want to win in this mode all you need to do is get two of the points. If the enemy takes a point from you, then go and get the one furthest away from them, but always maintain control over two.

Spawn

First off you need to know that you’ll be spawning in some very questionable areas. Bungie is pretty good at not spawning you right in an enemy nest but it does happen, so you need to be ready right from the word go to kill every member of the opposing team if it comes to it.  With that said, you also generally spawn quite far away from all of the Control points, so you need to become familiar with where these are pretty fast to help you know where to run from anywhere on the map.

Weapons

This isn’t a mode where you need to bring the absolute best gun in Destiny 2, all you need is something you’re comfortable with. For me this means a Hand Cannon with a high rate of fire, though I’m usually taken out by Auto Rifles so I’d say they were a good bet as well. What I’m trying to say is don’t bring something fancy, bring something safe because at the end o the day you need to kill all of the enemies on a control point as fast as possible in order to hold it or take it.

Defence

Working as a team is the only way you’ll win in Control. I understand more than most that players without microphones are generally crapped upon, but that’s no excuse for playing poorly. You need to follow your team mates and present a united front to the enemy, gunning down every enemy you come across regardless of where you are. What I mean to say is stick with your team, follow at least one of them from the get go and you’ll be alright. Two Guardians is better than one unless the one has something ridiculous like Wardcliff Coil.

I'm an avid Destiny 2 fan and player. I fell in love with Destiny 1 during the early alpha and have been hooked by the universe ever since. I really enjoy playing with other Guardians, speculating about the lore, and writing about as much of the Destiny universe as I can.
